This colourful book is a tool to get children hearing the sound (“phoneme”) /w/ in spoken words and then seeing the letter (“grapheme”) w in the written words, building their awareness of this simple letter and sound link (“GPC”).
It can also be used to introduce the letter name (once children have learnt the letter sound) and to teach children the correct formation of the letter in its lower case form.
The title works together with the other books in the Alpha Stars series to cover all the letters of the alphabet (A-Z) and the additional two- and three-letter graphemes traditionally taught up to the end of Letters and Sounds Phase 3 (e.g. ch, th, igh).
