66 book band readers (covering Pink to Lime) that have been meticulously written, designed and produced with the support of Shirley Bickler – co-author of Book Bands for Guided Reading (the definitive text on the pedagogy).

The collection as a whole can be used to support the ‘Book Bands approach’ to teaching children to read – an alternative to phonics.

Or for those using phonics, the books from roughly Orange Band onwards can be used after your phonics teaching has come to an end – to help bridge the gap between then and children becoming ‘free readers’.

This is because, while they are not fully decodable, these texts are still carefully levelled, giving teachers some control over the level of challenge children are facing in their reading and a structured way forward with developing literacy skills.

What’s more, we have free guided reading lesson plans available for each of these titles, which makes it easy to continue guided reading sessions beyond phonics teaching, if that’s something you would like to do.
